Visiting the House of the Virgin Mary was a moving experience and its believed to be the home where Mary lived her last days in Ephesus. St. John also stayed there before he was beheaded. This is a pilgrimage site and an Italian Mass was being said next to the house making the visit reflective and solemn.
There is a prayer wall where many of the visitors write prayer requests on pieces of paper and attach to the wall. Next to the wall are the three fountains of holy water. Each visitor seemed to have a reason to be there as they walked about quietly and with respect for the grounds they were on.
