Next to the Alamo is a fabulous Victorian hotel, The Menger. You could spend hours looking at the antique furniture, pictures of by gone eras and Carrie Nation’s hatchet. It was in the bar where Teddy Roosevelt gathered his Rough Riders. Talk about a living history to transport you back in time! I found it all so fascinating how far the US has come since the late 1800’s and yet some things remain the same over time.

The legend of Stetson hats is like looking at monuments and being in awe. Paris Hatter’s, has been family owned for 100 years and they know hats. Billie has worked here since 1981 and showed me a hand crank hat stretcher. Many famous people have been customers including Dwight Yoakam and Garth Brooks!

I did resist the temptation to buy a hat, although a good hat never goes out of style.  Maybe next time.
