Su-Mei Yu, chef and owner of Saffron Restaurant on India St, opened her restaurant 30 years ago in 1985. She has written cookbooks, hosted a show on PBS and appeared on national TV shows explaining Thai cooking. Her walls are full of photos of Su-Mei standing with Julia Child, Diane Sawyer, Martha Stewart and Emeril to name a few. Today was an anniversary blessing of her 30 years with a prayer for good wishes, cleansing ceremony and blessing by DKC spiritual director, Drupon Samten Rinpoche of Drikung Kyobpa Choiling Monastery of Escondido where Su-Mei attends.

After an hour long moving service Su-Mei had a buffet ready for everyone with her healthy and tasteful foods. In a testament to her passionate cooking in San Diego, longtime friends honored her with their presence.
