Rosario and her daughter Rodnia realized San Diego needed their Mexican style of cooking and opened El Borrego in North Park 12 years ago.  The restaurant is known for Guerrero style Barbacoa which is marinated lamb and so popular, 1,000 lbs are consumed a month. Of course, handmade tortillas, beans and rice complement the dish. And don’t miss the Nopales (cactus) salad.

Other menu items are chiliquiles verde, pork pozale soup and enchiladas. Loving mole, I ate the mole chicken enchiladas and the sauce is made with chocolate, chili, peanuts and sesame seeds. Oh yum.

Breakfast is served all day and Rosario told me to come back mid-Nov until first week of Dec because she will be serving traditional Romeritos, (baby potatoes, tomatoes, cactus and shrimp) and traditional Bacalao (salted fish).  I can’t wait to return to eat and visit these nice women who work hard in the kitchen sharing their love.   #Elborrego #barbacoa #Nopales
