Anytime is coffee time, and I discovered the Kona Mountain Coffee store on the Big Island. The coffee is 100% grown and hand picked on the family’s Kona farm, then roasted in the store.
I met the owner Bill Dwyer and his daughter Heather, and they are committed to producing the smoothest coffees.
Chocolate candies are made in house and Bill offered me some coffee and chocolates to try later. Their staff is generous with coffee and chocolate samples to customers and the tasting proved less sugar and cream is needed in their coffees. I was intrigued by the mug designed to give aromas to the nose while drinking, so I bought one as my homework project and it does a fine job!
Driving south of Kona, this bakery was hard to find because the sign is hidden, but we prevailed at Standard Bakery. Owner Lloyd Fujino is the third generation in his family’s bakery and their Cocopan filled with coconut, and Chantilly cake are just a few of the best sellers.
The orders are delivered early to restaurants and stores and I was still able to find some Chantilly cupcakes. They even make lunches to go and Bento boxes were being filled and lined up for the lunch crowd. This bakery is old style and is open 4:30 am to 3:00 pm M-F. True bakery hours!
