BBQ at the roadside stand Big Jake’s in Honaunau, south of Capt Cook, Big Island, Hawaii. It’s all about the barbecue ribs, meats and chicken cooked over keawe wood by Jake.  Jake was raised on the island, cooked in many established kitchens and is a certified bbq pit master. You know its good bbq when you run out of napkins but still have more sauce to wash off!

On the way to or from the green sand beach and South Point, a stop at Randy’s Huli Chicken is a must!

We bought a whole chicken which was huge and ate off it for days. Randy is a nice man and I didn’t know he was on Andrew Zimmern’s Food Network show until much later. If I lived here, this place would be dinner all the time, but he’s only open Thursday and Friday.
