After hearing about the refurbished La Casa Del Zorro Resort in Borrego Springs, my curiosity brought me to the storied hotel. The grounds are beautiful and well kept with swimming pools everywhere I turned. Well-known San Diego newspaper entrepreneur, James Copley bought the property in 1960 and it became the place in the desert for Hollywood and political jet-setters to be seen. Zorro means fox in Spanish and Helen Copley loved the red fox design. The mural behind the bar shows the foxes reading what else but the San Diego Union.
“Marilyn Monroe slept here” is the claim to fame at the old Hoberg resort. Borrego Springs enjoyed the good times of Clark Gable, Raymond Burr and others in this secluded hotel with airport and private car service. Now it is the Palms at Indian Head and the Coyote Steakhouse serves a delicious Cornish hen with wild rice, medjool dates and herbs.
Borrego Springs is located in San Diego County and has so much to offer visitors. Relaxation, scenic mountains, desert landscape and no stop lights. The air is clean and its one of the best places in the USA for star gazing.
It’s a great getaway any time of the year.
