Recommended by a friend, we stopped in Andersen’s Bakery and Restaurant in Santa Barbara and began eyeing the goodies.  Cases full of beautiful cakes and Danish pastries with marzipan, custard and creams.  Ask for a sample of any of the pastries and that’s what you get, a big hunk of one and I know that first hand.

Breakfast, sitting in ornate white chairs and drinking very strong coffee, I ate buttermilk pancakes with infused lemon and fresh syrup from Santa Ynez.  Chris had their home made seasoned pork sausage and it was fresh tasting and complimented potatoes and eggs not to mention the big slice of apple strudel brought to the table.  We’ll be back when we drive home and pick up goodies for the road trip.

Since we had the time, we drove north on hwy 1 and drove and drove.  Sunshine, gorgeous blue and green waters along the pacific coast, yes, it was picture postcard scenery all day.  Until…the road work on hwy 1 to make a new lane held up the line of cars for a while and someone nearly caused a head on collision because he didn’t like being in the pack.  Must be because he had a sports car and thinks he can.

Passing Cayucos, a small seaside town near Morro Bay,  I remembered reading about a very good bakery there, Brown Butter Cookie Company, add it to my list for the drive home.  Besides, I’m stuffed with Danish pastries now!
