Near the well known La Jolla Shores in San Diego, Calif is Cheese Shop deli. The bungalow looking shop has been in business since the early 1970’s and next generation family owner Dave cooks and waits on customers with friendly welcomeness. Making fresh deli food is his passion with nearly 50 years of roasting meats, making potato salad and chopping vegetables for fresh soups and salads.
He was quick to show me the tomato soup boiling for the day and had me try his refreshing drink made with lemonade and pickle juice.
The deli is also known for chewy oatmeal cookies made without flour which wins people over for the homemade taste.
Cheese is no longer sold here but there is a good selection of international snacks. The sandwiches and snacks are a quick meal for sitting on the beach or after a swim in the ocean.
Among the many sandwich selections which are made to order are the popular roasted pork and turkey with cheese.
