I don’t know what I was impressed with more, eating at Bankers Hill Bar and Restaurant or meeting co-owner Terryl Garve. Terryl started Cafe 222 downtown in 1992 and you might remember the billboards with her wearing a pumpkin waffle as a hat. She’s been a trend setter with food and restaurants even when San Diego wasn’t a blip on the culinary map. By the way, the hamburger is voted one of the best in San Diego each year and for good reason!
Tartine in Coronado is a well established European cafe and bakery which has been serving regulars and tourists in the Crown City for 18 years. Before French bakeries dotted San Diego, Tartine was a trail blazer with sophisticated meals and elegant treats. Three women own the cafe full of tasteful temptations and the feeling is like stepping into a French bistro serving espresso and desserts. I’m ready to order the beef stroganoff for dinner!
The desserts are almost too pretty to eat, well almost.
