Thanksgiving is here! #AD Girard Gourmet Bakery and Deli on Girard Ave, La Jolla, decorates cookies according to the seasons and these fall cookies have been gobbling in the case.
Chef/Owner Francois Goedhuys was born in Belgium and learned his pastry skills throughout Europe. He and his wife Diana, opened their specialty bistro over 25 years ago and it became the place for strudel, quiches and beef burgundy.
Diana told me they make chicken and vegetable stock fresh every day for the soups. They also bake Italian and grain breads for the sandwiches (I had chicken curry and house made chutney on whole grain bread). Diana invited me to try the Cowboy quiche and the popular cinnamon raisin pastry which I heated up at home.
As if cooking from scratch wasn’t enough, much of the produce is grown on their Julian farm. So many quality choices, I just might return for more holiday cookies!
