Our friends Rick and Lynn from San Diego relocated near Waimea on 10 acres of grassy pasture and just flew in their horses and dogs and now they are all together.  We walked on their property and petted MacGinnis the beautiful retriever dog and took off for lunch to Huli Sue’s.  Huli Sue’s is a rustic and fun restaurant near the center of town in Waimea and funky.  I ate a very tasty brisket cooked over kiawe and mesquite woods piled high on a sweet roll and topped with barbeque sauce. The fresh french fries cooked with the skins on were so crunchy and tasty.  The tortilla soup is good too according to my friend.  I wanted a piece of the very high layered chocolate cake but will wait until next time. My husband had the green chile pork stew, full of cubed pork in a tasty thickened green chilie broth with tortilla strips for a crunch factor.

On the way back we stopped at Pu’ukohola Heiau National historical site and in the ranger buidling we heard humpback whales talking two miles out from the coast on a wireless speaker.   Cool!

Huli Sue’s is now The Fish and the Hog
