While vacationing in Hawaii, I met Rick Nelson and engaged him in conversation about his Parkhouse Eatery t-shirt because the restaurant is vintage style in San Diego. 
Rick has owned the restaurant property for many years and the old time pedestal clock is still in front making it a beacon to enter the patio. The restaurant is an old house in a community which was the hub of schools and businesses before housing spread further out from the city. Look around the interior and see the homey dining room furniture, fireplace and a newly designed bar. Each area has its own personality and gives a relaxing and no need to rush feeling.
Gilberto Villarreal has been the chef for 30 years and his son Javier was raised in the kitchen and the dining area. Consistency keeps patrons coming back year after year. I made my way to the restaurant on Park Blvd for breakfast and returned another day for lunch. I met Gilberto and Javier and learned meals are hand made with the churro pancake being popular as are the chilaquiles. The chilaquiles are a bit spicy hot and the churro pancake is the perfect ending.
Knowing the fried chicken sandwich is a specialty and takes time to prepare, I drank ice tea as it was being made along with fresh Kennebunk fries. What a satisfying lunch!
