Why didn’t I learn this in school? I had to come to Jamestown, Virginia to find out the first English settlement was in Jamestown 13 years before The Pilgrims landed. And to add to the confusion, they didn’t come over in the Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria. The ships were the Susan Constant, Godspeed and Discovery. Artifacts are being unearthed from Pocahontas’ times and on display in the visitor center near the James River. The picture of the oven is a Devon bread baking oven used by the settlers.
Nearby in Yorktown is the American Revolution history museum. A large and expanded visitor center is being built to accommodate all the interactive historical displays and large summer crowds.
My mind is spinning from all the history!
