Feeling like Vietnamese food since visiting Vietnam a few months ago, we headed for Phuong Trang on Convoy St. We’ve dined here for years, but now we chose our food from a different point of view.
The family started serving Vietnamese dishes in a small place in 1988 and its grown to a large restaurant with a loyal following. I ordered my favorites of Bun Xao Bo Hoac Ga (vermicelli noodle bowl with lemongrass and stir fried beef) and Banh Xeo (Vietnamese crepe) with iced Vietnamese coffee.
All the food tasted authentic and it’s inexpensive (the restaurant is Zagat rated), but it’s the flavors that capture us.
After dinner, a stroll next door to Big Joy Family Bakery and Cafe for a look and a bite of delicate desserts seemed fitting. Colorful macaroons and cream filled treats topped with gorgeous decorations filled the glass cases. Which ones to buy was the overwhelming thought…
