I have wanted to visit the Maker’s Mark distillery in Loretto, Kentucky because I’m a big fan of the whisky and finally had the opportunity to do so on a beautiful day. Driving on small roads which seemed to go forever, as well as lush green meadows, the distillery finally appeared.
Staff are very friendly and give tours throughout the day including tasting samples. I learned a lot about how the bourbon is made and aged by taste not years. There is such demand for their various bourbons, they can’t make enough of it to keep up. At the end of the tour is the gift shop where I bought a souvenir bottle and donned safety gear to dip the neck in the famous red wax. Just had to do it, after all, it sets all other whisky bottles apart.
