First stop on Maui from the airport is Star Noodle. Fine Asian/Fusion and always freshly prepared. Vietnamese crepe, Kalbi short rib and steamed pork buns. One of my regular restaurants when visiting Maui and I haven’t found another crepe like this, which brings me back to Maui.
Time after time, I’ve passed Frida’s Mexican Beach House and with a SoCal attitude, doubting the authenticity of Mexican food made in Hawaii. They passed the test! Chris loved the Latin influence with the octopus, pineapple-cucumber-mint margarita and my short rib enchiladas, plus green cilantro rice and black beans was terrific. It’s on my list for restaurants not to be missed.
Next door is sister Mala Ocean Tavern and it’s super fresh also and that’s where I got hooked on purple sweet potatoes. So much more than poi!
