Visiting beautiful Torrey Pines Gliderport in La Jolla with activities worth watching in a stunning location is a must.  I remember years back when hang gliders soared over the cliffs and now there’s modern powered paragliders. There’s even a falconry experience including parahawking with trained falcons soaring around the paragliders. Talk about a unique experience near the cliff as a raptor flies from the instructor to your bird loving arm.

Lunch is simple at the Cliffhanger Cafe and the sandwiches are huge. The scenic cliffs of La Jolla offers picnic tables and mesmerizing views of the Pacific Ocean for a most relaxing day.

If you’re so inclined to try paragliding, check the website (www.flytorrey.com) or the falconry experience (otalraptorexperience.com) for all the information that is needed.

We also explored Shelter Island for the postcard views, easy parking and lunch on the pier at Fathom Bistro, Bait and Tackle. Fathom is known for their in house made sausage sandwiches and varieties of tap beers.  The little diner serves winning combinations of mouth-watering savory foods and local craft beers. Saddle up to an outside table and munch away while enjoying the great views.

People watching here is fun with dedicated pier fishers, bike riders and joggers. I heard a dad tell his young son to wear his sunglasses so he could see the fish as he held onto his fishing pole and then a woman got excited when her pole began wiggling with a catch.

Holy mackerel it was an exciting day on this little pier.
