Many years ago, my good friend Nancy Ryan (Nancy Knox back then) introduced me to the Swedish pancakes with lingonberry butter, German pancakes and cheese blintzes at The Pancake House in El Cajon. Over the years, we’d meet for breakfast to eat the pancakes and catch up with each other lives. We even brought our moms for Sunday breakfast and the Pancake House continues to be a special place for us.
Here’s to many more pancakes and blintzes!
I used to walk to Heavenly Donuts on Waring Rd when I was a youngster. The business has changed owners over 50 years but one thing is still true, making traditional donuts fresh each day. You won’t find modern and wild donuts but you will find classics like maple bars, apple fritters and glazed donuts. Kids run in to buy a donut before soccer practice and I happened to see men about my age eyeing the display case. Must be a tradition in Allied Gardens!
