I introduced Chris to his first Indonesian rice table at Kantjil & de Tijger restaurant with a super selection of veggies in coconut stock, roasted pork, shrimp steamed in banana leaf, fish skewers, shrimp salad in peanut sauce, eggs topped with spicy coconut sauce and fried sweet potatoes with Javanese palm sugar syrup. Dessert was a feathery spice cake with lingering cardamom and cinnamon. Melissa was our friendly server and another American was very happy with his meal and exclaimed the rice tables haven’t changed since he last enjoyed it 45 years ago. He’s right!
