It may be true big brand commercial potato chips are addicting but when I found Kona Chips on a previous trip, I had to buy them on each returning trip to Hawaii. South of Kona and near Capt Cook is the family factory and storefront where the potato chips, chips dusted with furikake Japanese seasoning and the famous Ugly Cookies are made. The chips are not greasy because of a spinning action to take out the oil and leave them flavorful and crunchy. The ugly cookies consist of crushed potato chips and chocolate chips with a buttery taste. They are by far the best selling cookie of all their cookies, according to GM Damon Furukawa.
Since the chips are so popular, three packages of different sizes are a good way to transport them to the mainland. And it gives me something to look forward to when I’m back to the routine. Thank goodness I brought an empty suitcase!
