O’Brien’s Boulangerie in Poway is just what is needed in-between freeway 15 and hwy 67. The Escobar family has been baking breads for 30 years, mostly wholesale, and it’s new location also offers pastries, breakfast and lunch. You can watch bread being made and order a very buttery palmier cookie like I did.

My turkey sandwich was made with chipotle cranberry spread and squaw bread, was oh so fresh.

O’Brien’s is getting many new customers by word of mouth and after eating their delights and breads, they return for more.

The French Oven in Scripps Ranch is owned by Yves Fournier and has been opened for 15 months.  Mr. Fournier has years of experience as an expert French bakery chef and his chewy baguettes prove it.  He’s a 5th generation baker and the sign behind him belonged to his great, great grandfather, Jean Baptiste Fournier.

Imagine having a family bakery near the French Alps! The texture of the bread and the gracefulness of the pastries are extraordinaire. The French Oven bakery is tucked away in a small mall and makes you feel like being in France. I’ll have a croissant to go, merci beaucoup.
